Cambewarra Mountain landslip repairs progressing despite wet weather

June 2024

The severe wet weather across the Illawarra and south coast in April and May has not had a significant impact on progress during the first two months of work to repair natural disaster damage on Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra Mountain.

Transport for NSW (Transport) discovered some new damage at the six landslip sites, which did create extra unexpected work.

However, the work crews took advantage of better conditions towards the end of May to make up lost time on the repair program.

The specialist contractors appointed by Transport started the time-consuming ground works at all six of the landslip repair sites on the mountain.

This work involved establishing environment controls to manage sediment run-off and clearing the sites of loose rocks, soil and vegetation.

Work crews also carried out test drilling at selected locations to make sure the design strength could be achieved when the task of installing soil nails began.

This test drilling confirmed the difficulties in the ground conditions identified during the extensive geotechnical investigations Transport had carried out.

The work crews have been making progress with the important task of installing the soil nails required for the project.

Wet weather during the first two months of work to repair landslip damage on Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra Mountain has presented additional challenges but not had a significant impact on progress.

Hi KV Community,

Are you aware that SCC are considering selling some council-owned land to help prop up their finances?

They have identified three packages of land in the Valley that could be sold off:
Lot: 105 DP: 264466 Jenanter Drive, Kangaroo Valley, 2577
Lot: 13-14 DP: 900834 Moss Vale Road, Kangaroo Valley, 2577 (next to Broughton St)

More information (and a map) can be found here.

Council are conducting a survey to find out what we think of this idea as a way to recover from the financial state they have found themselves in.

Now is the time to have your say. To complete the survey, click here. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete. The properties in KV they have identified are questions 19, 33 and 40.

The survey closes on Thursday this week.
